Year Event
1942 The Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAC) established by act of Congress.
1948 State of Israel proclaimed and the biblical homeland of the Jews was restored. This was pulled off by the UN action of dividing Palestine into two countries, a decision not well received by the Palestinians.
1955 In response to the establishment of NATO, the communist countries sign the Warsaw Pact - calling for the mutual defense of Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union.
2001 In UNITED STATES v. OAKLAND CANNABIS BUYERS' COOPERATIVE et al., the U.S. Supreme Court strikes down medical use of marijuana. See "COMPASSION GOES UP IN SMOKE" at the FindLaw site for details.
2003 DARPA's Information Processing Technology Office solicits bids for the LifeLog project, an extremely ambitious effort to create a massive searchable computer database that captures, stores, and makes accessible the flow of one person's experience in and interactions with the world. The objective is to be able to trace the 'threads' of an individual's life in terms of events, states, and relationships.
