| 1914 | Convicted of murder on meager evidence, the singing Wobbly, Joe Hill is sentenced to be executed in Utah. A jury of conservative Utahans convicted him on this day in 1914 and he was sentenced to death. He was executed by firing squad the following year.

| 1925 | Hitler Publishes his book, Mein Kampf. Dictated by Hitler during his 9 month stay in prison, the book is a bitter and turgid narrative filled with anti-Semitic outpourings, disdain for morality, worship of power, and the blueprints for his plans for world domination. The autobiographical work soon would become the bible of Germany's Nazi party.

| 1956 | Narcotic Control Act of 1956 became law. The act increased still further the penalties for violation of the existing laws and proliferating the scope of federal control over the use, possession and sale of narcotic drugs and marijuana. Recreational drug use continued to increase.

| 1964 | Riots break out in urban ghettoes of New York City and Rochester, the first of the series of "race" riots that will plague this country for some time in this period of the "Great Society".

| 1969 | Mary Jo Kopechne and Senator Kennedy (D) plunged off Chappaquiddick bridge. Kennedy escapes but Mary Jo drowns. What caused the real stir was his failure to report the incident for almost ten hours. He was later found guilty of leaving the scene of the accident and given a two-month suspended sentence. A lesson in American justice: Your time in jail is inversely determined by your funds and your political power.

| 1972 | Jane Fonda delivers an anti-war speech on Hanoi Radio, one of a series of six, an act many view as an act of treason.

| 1984 | McDonald's Restaurant mass shooting. Armed with multiple firearms and 25-round large capacity ammunition magazines, James Oliver Huberty, 41, entered the San Ysidro, CA, McDonald's restaurant and opened fire. He shot 40 people, killing 21 and wounding 19. He was killed by a police sniper.
