1209 The Christian Crusaders sack the city of Beziers in southern France and its population of around 10,000 massacred by the Abbot of Citeaux. The leader, Abbot Arnaud-Amaury says "Caedite eos! Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius" (Latin for "Slay them all! God will know his own.")
1934 John Dillinger, the notorious bank robber, is killed by FBI agents in Chicago. In those days, the FBI was highly respected by the public. They have now lost that respect.
1937 On this date, the Farm Security Administration (FSA) is established through the passage of the Bankhead-Jones Act, to aid farm tenants, sharecroppers and laborers in buying land.
1946 Zionist terrorists, intent on forcing Britain to set up a Jewish state in Palestine, blow up part of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem containing British government and military offices, killing 91 people. 1988 The “Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act” {pdf}, Pub. L. 100-77, permits the donation of Federal surplus personal property to tax-exempt providers of assistance to homeless individuals. [Giving is so much fun when you are the government -- because you get to buy it again!].
1998 The IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 was signed into law by President Clinton. The Act allegedly makes significant structural changes in the management and oversight of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), strengthens and enhances the rights of and protections applicable to taxpayers and makes other, unrelated changes to the Internal Revenue Code.
