1958 "SMALL BUSINESS INVESTMENT ACT" is signed. Allows small businesses to get low cost loans at taxpayer expense.
1959 The state of Hawaii is admitted to the Union.
1969 In a meeting between U.S. president Richard Nixon (R) and President Pak of South Korea, Nixon explained the new U.S. policy of letting friendly nations solve their own problems supported by U.S. economic and military aid but without the involvement of U.S. forces.
1974 "Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act" becomes law. [No more grades posted in the hallway please!]
1986 The "public debt limit" is raised from $2,078,700,000,000 to $2,111,000,000,000 by our exalted leaders.
1991 Latvia declares its full independence from the Soviet Union.
1996 President Clinton (D) signs the War Crimes Act of 1996. The Bush gang is getting nervous and would like it nullified ASAP!
1996 "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act" becomes law. Calls for a national database, now being constructed, that will contain every exchange and observation that takes place in your doctor's office. This includes records of your prescriptions, your hemorrhoids and your mental illness. Another fine example of "Stealth Legislation"
1997 World Net Daily reported in the Aug. 15 edition that Federal Agencies "firepower" continues to expand now with nearly 60,000 armed agents. Not counting the Military which is used more and more in civil matters, e.g., the "War on Drugs".
