1948 | Widespread popular demonstrations occurred in Iraq, sparked by the announcement of the Portsmouth Treaty with Britain, a renegotiated version of the 1930 treaty. The British agreed to remove their troops from Iraq and gave up sovereignty over their two air bases there, but they still retained a voice in Iraqi military planning and remained as the sole supplier of training and equipment to the Iraqi army.

1993 | DOD directive, DODD 3025.1, "Military Support to Civil Authorities (MSCA)", is issued defining how the military will assist the civil authorities in times of "emergencies". Further expanded by DODD 3025.12. [So much for the prohibition of such activities by the Constitution and, specifically, the Posse Comitatus act!]
