1968 | The Gun Control Act of 1968, Public Law 90-618, becomes law.

1981 | US National debt topped $1 TRILLION this date.

1986 | The "TAX REFORM ACT OF 1986", P.L. 99-514, tightens up the screws in the "alternative minimum tax (AMT)" code which allows the government to force a higher tax out of you that they couldn't figure out how to do legitimately. On the plus side, the new Tax Bill restructures the tax code to reduce 15 brackets to 2 with a top level of only 28%.

1989 | President Bush (R) vetoes a bill that would give financial aid to women needing abortions after being raped.

1994 | "Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Act of 1994" becomes law. "A bill to assist in the conservation of rhinoceros and tigers by supporting and providing financial resources for the conservation programs of nations whose activities directly or indirectly affect rhinoceros and tiger populations, and of the CITES Secretariat. " As you can see, Congress is getting desperate for things to spend money on!
