1941 The California Anti-Migrant Law, the purpose of which was to keep the "Okies" out of California, was declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court.
1963 Newly sworn-in US President Lyndon B. Johnson (D) confirms that the United States will stay the course and will continue to support South Vietnam both militarily and economically.
1969 The nuclear nonproliferation treaty is signed by the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., the 23rd and 24th signatories.
1989 The entire presidium and secretariat of the Czechoslovak Communist Party, including leader Milos Jakes, resigned following mass demonstrations in Prague.
1993 After seven years, Congress passed gun control legislation. The so-called Brady Bill mandated a waiting period of up to five days for handgun purchases.
1996 The EPA proposes Clean Air Standards for the next Clean Air Act that, they claim would save 58 million lives! A later information is here.
2004 American seed selling interests were successful in getting a law passed for Iraq that makes it illegal for farmers to replant seeds from their own harvest.
