1835 | The "Treaty of New Echota" was signed between the US and some representatives (if official representatives of the Indians could not be found, they were arbitrarily selected by the US) of the Cherokee Indians in which the Cherokee's gave up their lands. 1845 | Texas is admitted as the 28th U.S. state.
1890 | The "Battle" of Wounded Knee ends the last major Indian resistance to white settlement in America. Nearly 500 well-armed troopers of the U.S. 7th Cavalry, some with Hotchkiss artillery, massacre an estimated 300 (out of 350) cold and starving Sioux men, women, and children in a South Dakota encampment. How did our Congress deal with this ghastly slaughter, unsurpassed until the Nazis came along? They awarded 20 Congressional Medals of Honor to the soldiers! For comparison, in the four years of WWII, only 3 Medals of Honor were awarded to ALL of the soldiers from South Dakota!

1970 | OSHA established by an act of congress. More harassment and interference with little results (saving one life costs billions?).
