|Year|| Event |
| The Gadsden purchase rounded out U.S. possessions in the Far West. Contents of the treaty here.
| American Political Science Association founded at New Orleans. Most noted for their lack of any real science in their studies. Not until Tullock and Buchanan created the field of Public Choice, was the reality of politics seriously studied.
| The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was formed.
| "TAX REFORM ACT OF 1969", P.L. 91-172, contains a provision for the "alternative minimum tax", which basically invokes a rule that after the application of millions of pages of tax code, if the amount of blood they squeeze out of you is not up to some minimum, you are forced to recalculate using another formula -- that will nail you good! Revised in 1986.
| "Poison prevention Packaging Act" passed by Congress. This is the act that resulted in having the aspirin bottles with "safety tops" so tenacious that you have to call your kid to get them off for you!
| After 2,000 years of hostile relations between the Christians and the Jews, the Vatican and Israel approve a document in which the Holy See and the Jewish state recognize each other.
| Saddam hanged. As usual for this phony adventure (the US invasion of Iraq), it was a circus.
