1861 United States House of Representatives unanimously passes a resolution guaranteeing noninterference with slavery in any state.
1916 Emma Goldman arrested for lecturing on birth control.
1945 U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt (D), Russian Prime Minister Joseph Stalin and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill agree at Yalta to establish a body devoted to fostering international peace.
1971 The United States and Russia sign a treaty banning nuclear weapons testing in the oceans.
1979 The bloody Iranian revolution begins and the U.S. & British installed Shah's reign is over.
1990 Nelson Mandela released after twenty-seven years in South African prisons. Later, he becomes the president!
1993 Janet Reno is appointed Attorney General for the U.S. after two previous nominees were rejected. Was she the worst AG?
1997 In Gobles, Michigan, fifteen-year-old Amber Nash is suspended for bringing a kitchen knife to school so she could cut a batch of brownies for a friend's birthday.
