1809 | The U.S. Supreme Court, in "U.S. v. Peters", rules that the federal government has more power than any individual state. See "The Legacy of the Marshall Court (1801-1835)".

1950 | The U.S. Supreme Court, in "DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA v. LITTLE", held that "The right to privacy in the home holds too high a price in our system of laws to justify a statutory interpretation that would impose a criminal punishment on one who does nothing more than [object to the officer's entry of her house without a search warrant]".

1962 | U.S. Marine Lieutenant Colonel John H. Glenn, Jr., became the first American to orbit the earth. Launched from Cape Canaveral, Fla., Glenn made three 90-minute orbits of the earth in the space capsule, "Friendship 7".

1997 | Lieutenant Kelly J. Flinn faces court-martial on charges of adultery, conduct unbecoming an officer, failure to obey a lawful order, making a false official statement and failure to obey the Air Force regulation on fraternization. [The basic charge is adultery, of course, and one wonders what has this got to do with flying a B-52? Could you be good at one and not the other?]
