1637 Captains John Mason and John Underhill attacked and burned Pequot forts at Mystic, Connecticut, massacring 600 Indian-Americans and starting the Pequot War.
1924 The Immigration Act of 1924 (Johnson-Reed Immigration Act), becomes law, further restricts immigration to the US for all countries and totally excludes Japanese. The Japanese ambassador warns of grave consequences.
1938 House UnAmerican Activities Committee (HUAC), founded.
1952 United States, Great Britain, and France sign a "peace contract" with the Federal Republic of Germany.
1972 SALT I agreement signed restricting development of ABMs and freezing numbers of ICBMs and submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) in place for 5 years.
1994 President Clinton (D) announces this date that he is renewing China's most-favored-nation status despite their continuing human-rights violations and says that MFN status will no longer be linked to human rights. (From The People's Chronology)
2000 President Clinton (D) issues Executive Order (EO) #13158 that expands the scope and jurisdiction of the "MARINE PROTECTED AREAS" (MPAs) {pdf} along our coasts, lakes, "connecting waters", etc. EO's are often used by presidents to bypass the legislative process in invoking new laws.
2004 Today's Example of a Most Interesting Government Purchase: Reuters reports that "CACI gets $88 million contract with U.S. Navy". CACI is imminently qualified for such contracts as it has already been under investigation for various no-bid contracts with the U.S. military in Iraq for such things as interrogators at the Abu Ghraib prison (law suits have been filed against them on this issue too).
