1877 Congress passed the Manypenny Agreement, a law taking the Black Hills and ending Sioux rights outside the Great Sioux Reservation. The Sioux land - 134 million acres guaranteed by treaty in 1868 was reduced to less than 15 million acres.
1901 President McKinley assassinated.
1906 American forces temporary occupy Cuba to protect American interests during uprising against Cuban president, who requested the intervention, September 1906-January 23, 1909.
1968 The Hippies protest in Chicago. Police bash a few heads.
1977 Washington weathers "Koreagate", wherein large quantities of cash were donated by Korea to Washington politicians in exchange for favors. Sound familiar?
1980 Under Secretary of Defense for Research William J. Perry arrives in Beijing; says on 9/10 US will sell 11 advanced computers with possible military application to PRC.
1982 Former President Richard M. Nixon (R) visits China to commemorate 10th anniversary of Shanghai Communique; urges US and PRC to "seize the hour" and expand mutual relations.
1995 The "Ruby Ridge" Hearings convene in the Senate, chaired by Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA). Related events here.
2007 Israel bombs suspected nuclear site in Syria.
